The actor Thembinkosi Mthembu who plays the role of Mabutho on The River is that the total opposite of his character in real world . He’s reserved, warm and easy-going in real world . He’s one father to a gorgeous 2-year-old girl and once revealed that his daughter is everything to him.

Mthembu said in an interview: “Her presence has changed how I view the planet . When she was born, I wasn’t working, and this posed a challenge because I couldn’t provide for her. Thankfully, my mother lent a hand by assisting with rent and paying for my daughter’s needs at the time. Now that I’m during a better position financially, I’m fully enjoying fatherhood.”
Mthembu holds a diploma in Drama and Production Studies from the Durban University of Technology and graduated in 2017.

When he arrived within the City of Gold in 2017 to pursue an acting dream, things didn’t go consistent with plan. He had odd jobs here and there; he worked at Checkers and whilst a dancer on Cell C.

Mthembu’s big break was on The Republic where he played Junior. When the show ended, Tshedza Pictures was so impressed together with his performance on The Republic that they created the role of Mabutho for him on The River. The Republic just like the River was the brainchild of the award-winning Tshedza Pictures duo; Phathu Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon.

After landing his role Mthembu also started on a recurring role as Shift Manager on the MTV Base drama series; MTV Shuga Down South 2.

But his career didn’t begin on a high note on The River. The star actor recounts his first performance on The River as disastrous when he let the nerves get to him.
