Legendary journalist Derrick Thema laid to rest
Fabulous intelligencer Derrick Thema (73) has been laid to rest.
The famed author and actor worked for some of Mzansi’s biggest media houses similar as the SABC and The Citizen.
At The Star, he came the first black editor.
He was hailed as a mammoth who bettered in everything.
His burial service was held on Thursday, 6 January in Meadowlands, Soweto in an intimate send-off attended by family members and close musketeers.
Speaking during the service, his close friend Sipho “ Hotstix” Mabuse, who paid homage in a musical number, said he’s agonized.
“ We had an amazing relationship
We ’d fight but the coming day we ’d be together as if nothing happed. He was kind, loving and always there when I demanded him,” he said.
“ We participated great recollections.”
His son, actress and Television presenter Nonhle Thema could n’t hold back her gashes and described her pater as passionate and loving.
“ He wanted the stylish for us as his children and he was always present in our lives. I do n’t remember ever demanding commodity that he was n’t suitable to give,” she said.
I ’ll ever be thankful to him as he tutored us a lot.
“ He was a soft man, a brilliant man and a colonist and I ’m going to miss him a lot. As he’s laid to rest moment I ’ll continue his heritage and insure it lives on.”
She said she hoped one day they will write the book telling his life story and how he shaped Mzansi through his penmanship.
His nonage friend Tom Phatsoe said he’s agonized.
“ But I take comfort knowing that Derrick lived a full life and left a great heritage behind,” he said.
