Rayvanny makes history as the first African to perform at MTV EMAs
The 2021 MTV EMAs stressed the rise of African music to global elevation as Tanzanian songster Rayvanny came the first African artist to perform live at the awards form when he joined Latin megastar, Maluma.
The brace performed the world premiere of Maluma’s new single “ Mama Tetema”.
Expressing his gratefulness at the occasion to make history, Rayvanny said, “ I’m so honoured to be the first African artist to perform at the EMAs main stage.
“ This isn’t for me only, it’s for my country, Tanzania, and the African music assiduity.
“ The performance at the EMAs underscores the meaning of concinnity – Europe, Africa, Asia, America and the whole world in general, we’re one.
“ Big thanks to EMAs and the whole platoon for that huge platform, but also want to thank my family, Maluma, who decided to perform our song Mama Tetema.
“ He could have done any of his successes, but that’s all love and I feel blessed. Music is a universal language, let’s keep supporting each other. One love!”
Monde Twala, elderly vice chairman and general director of ViacomCBS Networks Africa (VCNA), added, “ It’s great to have African artistes featured on the EMAs stage.
“ This time, African music has witnessed a global golden age and ViacomCBS is proud to give a platform to showcase the stylish of our music and culture.”
The EMAs returned live from the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna in Hungary this once weekend.
Nigerian megastar Wizkid took home the coveted stylish African act award.
Wizkid edged out hisco-star on the global smash hit Essence, and first time EMAs designee, Tems, as well as other African stars – Focalistic, Amaarae and Diamond Platnumz who were all nominated in the same order.
